The Techno.com virus, more commonly known as the "Techno Virus", is a computer virus that infects Windows DOS. It infects .COM files including COMMAND.COM. The Virus is loaded into the memory by executing an infected program and then affects the computer's runtime and corrupts program or overlay files.[1]
The Techno virus activates randomly one out of ten times. The virus uses the CPU's audio device to play a tune that was created by the author of the virus. The tune goes for about 1:49. While the tune is playing, the word "techno" is typed all over the DOS screen in a slow manner, slow enough to make the user of the computer to feel as if a person was typing it at a continuous speed. If the user of the computer presses any button on the keyboard, a line of text will stop typing the word "techno" and type once the phrase "-Don't touch the keyboard-". Once the word "techno" is written all over the screen, the music stops and the word "TECHNO" is written in a large box at the center of the DOS screen. According to two videos, one audio, and one picture (all from YouTube), the larger word "TECHNO" has written within it the letters that it is (i.e.: T in "TECHNO" contains smaller T's, E in "TECHNO" contains smaller E's, and so on...).
It is believed that the author of the virus likes the music genre Techno because of the following reasons:
The bottom of the page contains links to three YouTube.com videos, two demonstrating the virus's actions as it goes, and one that contains a picture of the finished product on the DOS screen and the audio tune that comes from the CPU's audio device.
